Steam distilled Fo Shou - Citri sarcodactylis Fructus, Finger Citron, Fo Shou Gan (Gan = large tangerine)
“Buddha’s Hand”
Fo Shou’s aroma is light and fruity, sweet, slightly pungent with a bitter citrus peel over tone. Its effect is mouth watering and brings a pleasant stimulation to the surface of the skin, hairs and pores. This essential oil is produced by steam distillation.
Therapeutically, according to Chinese material medicas, Fo Shou regulates and spreads Liver Qi, Harmonizes the Stomach and strengthens the Spleen, dissolves phlegm and relieves cough.
For Spleen and stomach Qi stagnation or Liver overacting on the Spleen and stomach with symptoms such as abdominal discomfort, belching, vomiting, poor appetite, combining the essential oils of Fo Shou, Mu Xiang (Auklandia) and Xiang Fu (Cyperi) may enhance its regulating and harmonizing effects.
When Vomiting and nausea are predominant, practitioners could consider using Fo Shou with Sheng Jiang (ginger), and Zi Su Ye (Perilla leaf).
To more strongly descend the Qi, add Jiang Xiang (Dalbergia).
For morning sickness during pregnancy, consider blending Fo Shou with Zi Su Ye and Huang Qin (Scutellaria) essential oils.
To treat cough with phlegm include Fo Shou in a blend with Xing Ren (Armeniacae), Hou Po (Magnolia cortex), and Song Zhen (Pine).
