The light, heady aroma of our pure steam distilled Ju Hua essential oil is a sweet floral with a clean, bitter edge. It cools and clears the head and eyes while leaving a fresh taste in the mouth.
In China, the chrysanthemum, which blooms in late autumn and early winter, represents nobility, elegance and endurance. Its praises have been sung since ancient times. The flower was said to be imbued with “the soul of the sky and earth.”
In essays and poems, writers used the terms “jade bone, icy body, pearl petal and red heart” to describe the flower. for on cold autumn days, when all other flowers were fading away, only the chrysanthemum was able to flourish in the cold winds. The combination of beauty with strong character gave the Chrysanthemum an ideal personality in the eyes of Chinese scholars and Poets.
Revered for it’s medicinal properties since the earliest medical texts, Ju Hua was categorized as a superior grade herb in the Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing which says, “Taken over a long time, it will facilitate the qi and blood, lighten the body, and prevent aging.” It was also said to treat head wind, dizziness, eyes swelling and pain, aversion to wind, damp impediment and to benefit skin and muscles.
The activity of Chrysanthemum essential oil with it’s light, cool, sweet and bitter nature both ascends and descends. These qualities along with it’s affinity to the Lung and Liver make it helpful to disperse wind heat in the lungs as well as to cool and drain Liver fire and extinguish Liver wind while supplementing the Liver yin and blood.
Practitioners may consider combining the essential oils of Ju Hua, Bo He and Chai Hu to relieve Liver Qi blockage resulting in Liver fire blazing upward causing symptoms such as blurry vision, dizziness, head ache, and red swollen eyes. and raised blood pressure.
Ju Hua benefits the eyes and is one of the most commonly used herbs in the treatment of a wide variety of eye disorders.
Ju Hua has been found to dilate the blood vessels and help to bring down elevated blood pressure. To reduce blood pressure, consider blending with Jiang Xiang (Dalbergia,).
In dermatology, Ju Hua is helpful for it’s detoxifying, heat clearing properties. Practitioners may consider applying it with Jin Yin Hua (Lonicera) and Bai Zhi (Angelica dahurica) to clear abscesses, carbuncles and ulcerations.
