Jasminum sambac is a species of jasmine native to a small region in the eastern Himalayas, Bhutan and neighboring India. It is cultivated in many places, especially across much of South Asia. The flowers of this small, water loving evergreen shrub are strongest at night and harvested as buds during early morning in order to capture them at their peak to produce the most fragrant essential oil. These flowers with their exquisite fragrance are nocturnal, evidence of their truly Yin nature.
In classical Chinese medical terms, Jasmine essential oil nourishes water and clears fire. Its channel affinities are to the Kidney, Liver and Heart.
